Interns Get Hands-On Look at Livermore Training Center
Nineteen interns from 14 contractor member firms gathered at the Livermore Training Center for this year’s Intern Training Day on June 24, spending the day networking, learning more about the sheet metal industry and getting an inside look at apprenticeship training.
The day featured presentations from Duane Davies, Bay Area SMACNA board member and CEO/Chairman of NABCO; Sean O’Donoghue, Bay Area SMACNA’s Executive Vice President; and Nate Vennarucci, SMW Local 104’s Training Coordinator. Each speaker offered a different perspective on working in the sheet metal industry, giving interns valuable insight into what it takes to build a successful career.
From the moment they arrived, the interns were eager to learn. They asked thoughtful questions, stayed actively engaged and took advantage of the chance to connect with industry professionals and each other.
Before lunch, Vennarucci led a tour of the Training Center, highlighting the classrooms, training labs and state-of-the-art equipment used to give apprentices hands-on, real-world experience. The group took a particular interest in areas like testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB), service and welding, asking plenty of questions along the way.
It was a good day for interns to expand their knowledge, make new connections and see firsthand how the next generation of sheet metal professionals are trained. We look forward to following their progress in the years ahead!
